Who doesn't love a top 5 list?
Ok, so, the second I click publish, my list will have changed again. I'm not very good at choosing my favourite anything and I am especially bad when it comes to movies, as there are just so many that I love.
I have spent quite a while trawling my Letterboxd to decide which movies are my favourite and I have narrowed it down to 5, just about. This list however, is in no-way a ranking as it would take me weeks of self-debate in order to do that.
There are a lot of movies out there, and so many that I have yet to see but, without further ado (do people still say that?), here is my top 5!
1. The Great Escape (1963) - I said that this isn't a ranking but I think this could be my all-time favourite movie. It's great! I know it's a classic case of 'based on a true story' taking a lot of liberties with the facts. The iconic bike from the movie was a 1961 Triumph TR6 Trophy made in 1961, almost 20 years after the film is set. I don't care, it is great, and you just cannot get cooler than Steve McQueen.
2. Jurassic Park (1993) - I don't know anyone that doesn't like this movie. Now, I never watched this movie as a child, I don't know why, I really should have done. I watched it for the first time as an adult and was so glad when I did! I loved it, after I saw it, I bought myself a Jurassic Park t-shirt (which is as cool as it sounds) immediately and have not looked back. I guess, "Life, uh, finds a way".
3. Finding Nemo (2003) - This is a movie that I am sentimental about, I'm not sure why but it is a movie that I connect, so much, with being a child. I still re-watch it, probably once a year and I love it just as much each time. I don't know what else I can say about this movie because, anything I say won't do it justice.
4. Jerry Maguire (1996) - Yeah, I know, it's a rom-com and it is perfect. I remember, the first time I watched this, I watched it 3 times in a week (is that weird?). I have seen other rom-coms, there are some that I do like, there are quite a lot that I don't like but for some reason, I really connect with this one, you could say it "had me at hello".
5. Back to the Future (1985) - Fun. Sometimes that is all you need in a movie and wow, this move delivers it! While the sequels are debatable, the original is still fantastic and is, one of, the movies that makes me think that 1980's must have been just a cool era to live in. My local cinema was showing this movie recently and I felt so lucky to be able to see it on the big screen.
There are so many more movies out there that I love and would like to talk about in the future, I'm sure that if you keep reading this blog you will get a sense of the movies that I really enjoy, especially because I will quite happily talk about them for hours.
